The words for the

Use el/los with masculine nouns and la/las with feminine nouns. A feminine singular noun beginning with stressed a or ha usually takes el directly before it: el agua fría. Al is a + el; del is de + el.

Notice the contrast:el libro / los librosla casa / las casas

Use el for a masculine singular noun. Grammatical gender is not biological sex.

The book is interesting.

Feminine Plural

Use las for feminine plural nouns.

Las casas son grandes.

The houses are big.

Combined Articles

a+el becomes al; de+el becomes del.

Voy al parque del pueblo.

I go to the park of the town.

Common mix-ups

Compare: Me gusta el música.Use here: Me gusta la música.

Música is a feminine noun ending in -a, so it requires the feminine article 'la'.

I like music.
