You may recognize plenty of Spanish words and still need time to answer a simple question. That does not erase what you have learned. It tells you something about the kind of practice to try next.

Duolingo offers a structured course with short exercises. Fabling brings stories, listening, vocabulary review, and AI speaking practice together, with generated material shaped around what you know and what interests you.

What kind of practice do you want?

If a course path helps you sit down and learn, that is useful. Duolingo also has practice beyond sentence matching. Its Practice tab includes speaking, listening, words, and mistakes. Available Stories and Radio offer additional context.

For conversation, Duolingo Max includes Video Call and Roleplay. It would be inaccurate to describe the product as only isolated sentences or to say it has no personalization.

Fabling is worth considering if you want your reading material built around your own words and interests. Open a story, listen, look up an unfamiliar word, and return to useful vocabulary in review. Speaking practice gives you somewhere to try forming an answer aloud. You do not need to complete every activity in each session.

Make the difference concrete

Imagine two learners who both choose beginner Spanish. One enjoys food and knows words for cooking; the other enjoys travel and knows words for getting around. Their level label can be the same while the material they need differs. This is an illustration of the personalization Fabling is designed to provide, not a promise of a particular learning outcome.

Reading and listening can support understanding. Speaking also needs practice retrieving words and responding. No app comparison can promise that a certain number of lessons will make conversation effortless.
