Fabling with ChatGPT

Practice Spanish and French
with ChatGPT and Fabling.

Let ChatGPT use your saved vocabulary and grammar to help you practice. Fabling keeps your learning record between conversations.

Free Fabling connector. A ChatGPT account with custom MCP app access is required.

How to connect Fabling to ChatGPT

These steps follow the ChatGPT connection and read-access test completed on October 1, 2026. Menu labels and availability may vary by account. Fabling’s public directory listing is still pending, so use the custom app flow.

  1. Open Plugins in ChatGPT.Choose Add, then Create MCP App. Name it Fabling.
  2. Enter the server address.https://fabling.app/api/mcpKeep authentication set to OAuth. ChatGPT can discover the connection settings automatically.
  3. Begin with read access. In Advanced OAuth settings, keep Dynamic Client Registration selected. Under default scopes, select learning:read. Leave vocabulary:write and practice:write unselected for a read-only connection. Review ChatGPT’s notice and choose Create.
  4. Sign in to Fabling.Choose Continue to Fabling, sign in, and choose Spanish or French. Check that the callback domain is chatgpt.com, review the read permission, and select Connect app.
  5. Open a conversation.Find Fabling in your personal plugins and choose Try in chat. Ask it to retrieve your learning context before starting practice.

Prompts to try

Use Fabling to find five Spanish words I’m learning. Help me use them in a short conversation at a café.
Look at my French grammar in Fabling. Choose one topic to practice and ask me one question at a time.

ChatGPT should use the returned vocabulary and grammar evidence, explain gaps, and adjust when you tell it something is too easy or too hard. A suggested practice level is a starting point, not a proficiency certificate.

Saving vocabulary and practice

The first setup above allows reading only. Fabling also supports marking words known or learning, saving a brief practice record, and setting a practice focus. Each needs its matching write permission. ChatGPT write flows are still being verified; do not assume a change was saved unless the tool confirms it.

Saved word corrections appear in your Fabling vocabulary. Reported practice does not mark grammar mastered or change review schedules. You can review saved changes and disconnect ChatGPT in Your connections.

Setup questions

I don’t see Create MCP App.

Custom app access depends on your ChatGPT account and workspace settings. Check OpenAI’s current connection instructions. This guide does not require a public Fabling listing.

ChatGPT says it cannot save a word.

A read-only connection cannot save updates. Reading your record and changing it have separate permissions. Do not paste an API key into your chat to work around a permission error.

My level looks lower than expected.

The estimate is conservative when records are incomplete. Ask ChatGPT to look at the vocabulary and grammar evidence separately and tell it how the exercise feels. Your original onboarding estimate does not override current evidence.

Can I use the same record elsewhere?

Yes, a compatible assistant connected to the same Fabling account can retrieve your saved words and focus. See assistant availability for what has been tested.
